California Environmental Protection Agency issued the following announcement on April 6.
As public health and safety precautions have required Californians to stay home to save lives, the California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA) invites the public to come together online to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day.
“While sheltering in place, I invite all Californians to join Earth Day 50 celebrations online and take steps to save the planet from home,” said California Secretary for Environmental Protection Jared Blumenfeld.

Interactive Campaign
Throughout the month of April, CalEPA and its boards, departments, and office will engage in an interactive online campaign focused on how individual actions make a collective difference for the health of our planet and the well-being of Californians and their communities. Through social media and the use of #CalEarthDay50, CalEPA will provide practical actions people can take to safeguard the future. Fun and educational activities for children will be highlighted all month.
#HowISavethePlanet – Californians are encouraged to display their passion for the environment using the hashtag #HowISavethePlanet to share photos and videos of the actions they, their friends, and their family take to make a difference each day.
#WhyISavethePlanet – Californians can also share stories of #WhyISavethePlanet showcasing the people and the places that inspire or motivate them to protect and preserve our environment.
Virtual Events
Join Secretary Blumenfeld and his special guests for online Tea with Jared throughout April. They will reflect on California’s environmental leadership during the past 50 years and discuss how our state is positioned to meet the environmental challenges that lie ahead.
