Alabama Department of Environmental Management issued the following announcement on March 11.
The public hearing in regards to a proposed granite quarry in Lee County has been postponed.
The public hearing previously scheduled for March 31 at the Opelika Performing Arts Center at Opelika High School has not been re-scheduled at this time.
ADEM originally scheduled the public hearing to give people the opportunity to provide comments on the proposed issuance of air and water permits to CreekWood Resources, LLC, for a quarry near the intersection of Lee County Road 168 and U.S. Highway 431. The postponement was requested by the applicant.
If the permitting process continues, ADEM will reschedule a public hearing and give at least 30 days of public notice in advance of the new hearing. In addition, the public comment period would remain open until a designated time to follow the re-scheduled public hearing giving interested individuals time to respond.
