Illinois Environmental Protection Agency issued the following announcement on June 25.
The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has issued Administrative Citations to Bruce E. and Nannette L. Bontz, and D. Brooks Excavating, Inc. of Glasford, IL (Peoria County) totaling $4,500 for alleged violations of the Illinois Environmental Protection Act. The citations were for allegedly open dumping and open burning three (3) buildings and the contents of the buildings.
Bruce and Nannette Bontz hired D. Brooks Excavating, Inc. to raze and burn the buildings; therefore; all parties received an Administrative Citation. Open dumping and open burning of waste are illegal and negatively affect the health and well-being of neighbors and the environment. Administrative Citations for open dumping and open burning carry a fine of $1,500 for each violation on the first occurrence and double that amount for repeated violations. The Administrative Citations issued for this incident included violations for open dumping resulting in litter, open dumping resulting in open burning and open dumping resulting in deposition of general construction or demolition debris. People receiving an Administrative Citation can appeal the citation to the Illinois Pollution Control Board within 35 days of its issuance.
Residents who observe open dumping or open burning can report it to local law enforcement, their local public health department, or the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency.
