Ohio EPA announces Encouraging Environmental Excellence Awards winners

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (Ohio EPA) recently recognized the environmental efforts of nine businesses, nonprofits and governmental agencies through the 2016 Encouraging Environmental Excellence (E3) Awards.

The awards are presented in three levels: Achievement, Silver and Gold, with Achievement representing an environmental baseline, Silver outstanding work toward environmental stewardship and Gold highlighting an organization’s comprehensive commitment to minimizing its environmental impact. All groups honored through the awards were selected due to a willingness to go above and beyond policy compliance and push for environmental excellence.

“It is important to encourage Ohioans to keep their environment healthy, and to build on the E3 recognition program, the new Platinum Level will recognize organizations that have expanded their environmental programs beyond their own facility, to make a positive impact on the surrounding community,” Ohio EPA Director Craig W. Butler said.

This year’s Gold level honorees were ConAgra, based in Troy; Denison University, in Granville; Great Lakes Brewing Company, in Cleveland; JLG Industries, in Orrville; Marathon Office Complex, in Findlay; PPG Delaware; Scotts, in Marysville; and the United States Postal Service (USPS) Toledo. This year also saw one organization attain Silver stats, 3M Elyria.
