The program has facilitated partnerships between EPA Region 4 and colleges and communities located in its jurisdiction. It allows college and university students to help underserved communities through technical support, giving them practical experience and addressing community issues to promote future economic and environmental health.
The conference, which took place in Atlanta at the Sam Nunn Federal Center, highlighted the efforts of these college and university students, including presentations from CUPP participants. It also featured presentations from EPA officials, representatives of other federal agencies and college professors, who spoke about environmental justice initiatives, the ways in which climate change impacts underserved communities and the health disparities experienced by those in poor communities.
