The Ohio Lake Erie Commission (OLEC) recently scheduled its next quarterly meeting for March 30, when it will discuss strategic planning and its initial review of the Lake Erie Protection and Restoration Plan.

The commission is chaired by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (Ohio EPA) director and works to preserve the lake’s natural resources and protect its water quality and ecosystems to promote the region’s economic development. OLEC administers the state’s Lake Erie Protection Fund, which provides grants to fund projects that accomplish those goals and aid the watershed economically and environmentally. The grant funding is partially generated by sales of Lake Erie license plates featuring the Marblehead Lighthouse or the Lake Erie preserver.

The meeting, like all OLEC meetings, will be open to the public and the commission encourages individuals and organizations to attend and participate. It will take place in Oregon, Ohio, at the Maumee Bay State Park Conference Center, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The meeting will begin with reports provided by member state agencies and advisory committees, followed by time for public comments and questions.
