The board, which will begin meeting later this year, will work with the EPA on the development and operation of a new initiative that would digitize the agency’s tracking of hazardous waste shipments within the country.
The eight newly selected experts and EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy, or a designee, will further McCarthy’s e-Enterprise strategy through the creation of an electronic manifest, or e-Manifest, system. This will free up state and industry resources by reducing their reporting burdens and allow all interested parties, including the EPA, states and the general public, to more easily view information about hazardous waste transportation.
Specifically, the board will advise the agency on system performance and user fees and regulations and guidance associated with the system. The board will also help evaluate the system’s effectiveness once it is implemented, and recommend ways in which the agency can increase usage.
The Advisory Board will include: Michael M. Hurley from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, Washington Department of Ecology Program Manager John Ridgway, Joshua Burman from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, Veolia North America Environment and Transportation Department Senior Director Thomas Baker, Wastebits Co-founder Raymond Lewis, Lochbridge Automotive & Emerging Technologies Vice President Raj Paul, MPS Group Environmental Project Manager Cynthia Walczak and Wal-Mart Stores Inc. Senior Manager Justin Wilson.
