Idaho DEQ proposes issuing permit renewal for Grand View’s U.S. Ecology Idaho Site B facility

The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) recently proposed issuing a 10-year hazardous waste treatment, storage and disposal permit for the U.S. Ecology Idaho Site B facility, located 10 miles west of Grand View.

The DEQ’s draft permit, based on the facility’s permit renewal application, details procedures that the facility, which encompasses hazardous waste landfills, surface impoundments and treatment and storage areas, would have to follow in its operations. The DEQ is proposing to approve the permit based on review of the facility’s application, which it feels meets the protective measures for public and environmental health that the law requires.

The DEQ is currently accepting public comments on the draft permit, which is available for public review, along with the public notice and a fact sheet on the facility, on the DEQ’s website. Those interested in the documents can also find them at the DEQ’s Boise office.

The department will collect public comments until April 18 via its website and mail.
