Massachusetts Maritime Academy Wastewater Treatment Plant wins EPA award

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently gave the Massachusetts Maritime Academy Wastewater Treatment Plant its 2015 Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant Excellence Award.

The EPA created the Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant Excellence Award to honor those working at publicly owned wastewater treatment plants and celebrate exceptional efforts to improve area water quality.

The Massachusetts Maritime Academy Wastewater Treatment Plant, which is located in Buzzard’s Bay, was nominated by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection because of its operational and maintenance efforts. The agency also honored five other facilities, located throughout New England, for their exceptional performance in 2015.

“The professionals operating these wastewater treatment plants, as well as the municipalities and the state environmental agencies that support them, are essential to keeping our environment and our communities healthy by protecting water quality,” EPA New England Office Regional Administrator Curt Spalding said. “I am proud to acknowledge these outstanding contributions to help protect public health and water quality and give these operators the credit they deserve.”
