EPA registers Syngenta’s Ballista LFC insecticide

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently registered Syngenta’s Ballista LFC insecticide, which farmers will be able to use to combat soil-dwelling corn insect pests after it gains state registrations.

The insecticide uses lambda-cyhalothrin as its active ingredient, an often used broad-spectrum insect control, and is formulated for compatibility with many liquid fertilizers. Trials conducted by Syngenta show that Ballista LFC is an effective control of corn rootworm (CRW), as well as other pests like grubs, maggots and wireworms. The soil-applied insecticide (SAI) is especially useful for farmers planning CRW-traited corn, one of the most effective measures to ensure yield.

“Consistent and convenient control in an insecticide is a priority for growers looking to protect their yields,” Syngenta Product Lead Brent Lackey said. “Use of Ballista LFC will be most appropriate on CRW-traited corn in low-pressure areas or when there is a need to control secondary pests not controlled by traits.”
