Cramer brings fresh criticism for Obama Keystone rejection

U.S. Rep. Kevin Cramer (R-ND) recently reiterated his concerns about President Barack Obama’s rejection of the KeystoneXL pipeline following the announcement that TransCanada Corp. is planning to sue the U.S. for $15 billion in damages.

“The President’s short-sighted decision to reject construction of the KeystoneXL pipeline cost us a vital energy infrastructure project which would have created thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in economic benefits throughout the country,” Cramer said.

TransCanada intends to bring litigation in Federal Court, and it will argue that the rejection decision violates the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).

“Unfortunately, given Canada’s recent track record in suing the United States, I am afraid the American taxpayer will be left holding the bag for billions in penalties because of President Obama’s extreme environmental agenda,” Cramer said.
