FEMA, Massachusetts to host open house on new flood hazard zones

Following updates to the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) flood hazard zones, the agency will join the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) and the City of Boston Environment Department in hosting an open house on Tuesday, Jan. 12.

The meeting will take place at the Boston Teachers Union Hall in Dorchester from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Representatives from FEMA, DCR and Boston’s Environmental Department will discuss the flood zones and help local community members read the Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs), which will be effective on March 16. The meeting will also address the options available for locals to mitigate their impact.
