Aftermath Solutions to provide $150,000 for first responder training in Arizona

Aftermath Solutions Inc., based in Illinois, will contribute $150,000 to provide Arizona first responders with Occupation Safety and Health Administration blood-borne pathogen training for three years, as a Supplemental Environmental Project (SEP).

Aftermath provides biohazardous medical waste remediation services in the state, and the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) had previously noted several discrepancies between the company’s practices in Phoenix and the state’s medical waste requirements.

“Providing a statewide training benefit for 5,000 first responders directly supports ADEQ’s efforts to protect human health and the environment,” ADEQ Waste Programs Division Director Laura Malone said. “The terms of this agreement are a strong example of how at ADEQ, we always look for and support creative ways to turn enforcement measures into actions that further our communities’ safety and security.”

The ADEQ has determined that Aftermath is now in compliance with all state biohazardous medical waste disposal requirements. In addition to the $150,000 SEP, the company will also pay a $5,000 fine for its previous violations. The project and fee, part of a consent judgment, are dependent upon court approval.
