ABM to provide system improvements to make Georgia’s Irwin County school system more sustainable

Facility solutions company ABM will provide Georgia’s Irwin County School System with cost effective improvements to HVAC, lighting and controls systems through its Bundled Energy Solutions (BES) program.

The improvements, which will include HVAC equipment, high-efficiency LED lighting, water conservation equipment and an online HVAC control system, are expected reduce the district’s energy use by 35 percent and reduce operating costs by $5.7 million over the next 15 years.

“Our power rates had jumped significantly over the last few years, and I knew we had to improve our energy management. Not only does partnering with ABM make it possible for the Irwin County School System to make immediate infrastructure improvements across the district, but ABM will also guarantee the results and future performance of our facilities,” Thad Clayton, superintendent of schools for Irwin County’s Board of Education, said.

The BES program aims to drive costs out of the operating budget of the entities the company works with, allowing them to attain their technical facility needs and goals for sustainable operations. Irwin County Schools will now be able to update its aging systems without upfront costs, meaning no trimmed budgets or increased local taxes. The project is expected to create nearly $400,000 in available funds for the district.
