Idaho DEQ awards $30,000 grant to the City of Shelley for drinking water study

The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) recently awarded a $30,000 grant to the City of Shelley in Bingham County.

The grant is for the preparation of a study looking at the current drinking water system and evaluating where it can be improved, with a focus on distribution issues.

The full cost of the study is $60,000. The other half of the funds will come from the City of Shelley.

DEQ's Drinking Water Planning Grant Program gives help to eligible public drinking water systems for facility planning projects that provide safe and adequate supplies of drinking water.

These grants are available to community water systems that have at least 15 service connections for year-round residents or that regularly serve at least 25 year-round residents. Non-profit, non-community public water systems, which are used by the public but not necessarily the same people year-round, are also eligible.

The number of grants offered each year is limited to available funding.
