Senators introduce Resolutions of Disapproval on Clean Power Plan

U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-OK), chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, recently joined a bipartisan group of senators in co-sponsoring two Congressional Review Act (CRA) Resolutions of Disapproval on the Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean Power Plan.

“Since the president first took office, he has been working to sidestep significant opposition to his extreme global warming agenda and achieve through regulatory fiat what Congress has rejected time and again,” Inhofe said. "Currently his EPA is steamrolling ahead with climate regulations that a majority of states reject and that ignore the will of Congress, rely on unrealistic assumptions, cost billions to our economy, will increase our energy bills, and according to EPA itself will not impact global warming.”

The resolutions, rescinding the carbon emissions standard for new power plants and the standard for existing power plants, were co-sponsored by 48 and 49 senators, respectively. The Clean Power Plan was criticized by some sectors throughout its development for potential impacts on energy prices and reliability, and for the EPA’s apparent lack of accounting for those criticisms in its final rule.

“I am proud to join a bipartisan group of Senators in introducing CRA resolutions to send a clear message to the nation and the international community that the majority of the U.S. Senate does not support the president’s carbon mandates,” Inhofe said.
