Inhofe opposes new carbon standards for power plans

U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-OK) condemned the final carbon emission standards for fossil-fuel fired power plants in a statement last week after the regulations were published in the Federal Register.

He vowed that the new rule would be not be implemented.

“Federally mandated carbon controls, whether attempted through legislation or regulation, [are] a losing strategy,” Inhofe, who is the Chairman of the Environment and Public Works Committee (EPW), said. “Congress and the American people have consistently rejected such attempts, and the president’s now final carbon regulations will meet the same fate.”

Inhofe went on to approve of the bipartisan Congressional Review Act (CRA) Resolutions of Disapproval, from U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) and said that he would work to quickly get them on the EPW floor.

“These CRAs are intended to make it very clear to the international community that the majority of Congress does not support the president’s climate agenda,” Inhofe said. “The majority of Congress does not support any effort to fund his climate agenda, and any associated promises made by this administration, whether through political or legal means, will be short-lived.”
