EPA announces winners of 2015 SmartWay Excellence Awards.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the 2015 SmartWay Excellence Awards on Tuesday, honoring retailers, manufacturers and logistics companies that have promoted better air quality by reducing their carbon footprints in shipping goods across the country.

This year's winners were: Armada; Appleton Coated LLC; Bacardi USA Inc.; Canon USA Inc.; Gorton’s; Hewlett-Packard; Kimberly-Clark Corporation; Lowe’s Companies Inc.; Menlo Logistics; The Home Depot U.S.A. Inc; and Whirlpool Corporation. The EPA presented the awards at its Third Vehicle Technology Showcase in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

“SmartWay partners know that improving freight supply chain efficiency is not only good for business, but also good for our shared environment,” said EPA Office of Air and Radiation Acting Assistant Administrator Janet McCabe. “These award-winning partners are leaders among their peers, saving fuel, reducing pollution that contributes to climate change and poor air quality and saving their customers money -- a triple play.”

The SmartWay Transport Partnership encourages companies to move their products the cleanest and most efficient manner, which reduces emissions and helps the businesses save on fuel costs. Since the program’s inception in 2004, participating companies have saved 140 million barrels of oil, or $20 billion in fuel costs, and prevented 60 million metric tons of carbon pollution emissions.
