Michigan's DNR Accepting Grant Applications for Dam Repair, Removal Program

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is accepting proposals starting Oct. 1 for its Dam Management Grant Program, which seeks to fund dam removal, repair and maintenance throughout Michigan.

The DNR initiated the Dam Management Grant Program in response to a failing dam infrastructure in the state, with abandoned, unused and hazardous dams becoming an issue.

Now in its fourth round for the 2016 fiscal year, the program has $350,000 of grant money to award to local or state government groups, nonprofits and individuals who can submit projects to facilitate maintaining, repairing and/or removing dams in Michigan.

Those interested in the grant program can apply online after registering with MiRecGrants and completing the application form. The DNR will be accepting applications for this funding cycle until Nov. 13, 11:59 p.m.

So far, the grant program has awarded more than $3 million to 13 recipients.
