House panel to hold hearing on Great Lakes Restoration Initiative

The House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure’s Subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment will convene a hearing on the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) at 10 a.m. EDT on Wednesday at the Rayburn House Office Building, Room 2167, in Washington.

The subcommittee, led by U.S. Rep. Bob Gibbs (R-OH), will examine the initiative’s progress in attaining long-term goals in the Great Lakes ecosystem. The hearing is titled “The Great Lakes Restoration Initiative: A Review of the Progress and Challenges in Restoring the Great Lakes.”

Created in 2010 under the Great Lakes Interagency Task Force, which was created six years earlier, the initiative will reach its second phase in the beginning of 2015’s fiscal year.

Witnesses at the hearing will include representatives from the Environmental Protection Agency, the Government Accountability Office, the Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Great Lakes Commission, state and local officials, and representatives of organizations centered around the Great Lakes.
