Miamisburg will receive more than $1.5 million from the Water Supply Revolving Loan Account (WSRLA), which was created in 1988 to offer low-interest loans for community and nonprofit public water systems, allowing them to undertake improvements to benefit public health and stay in compliance with state and federal regulations.
The Miamisburg project will include the installation of new nanofiltration and reverse osmosis membrane softening facilities, as well as upgrading power supplies, source wells along the Great Miami River and the system’s controls. These improvements will lower sodium levels in the city’s drinking water and reduce sodium discharges into the river.
The WSRLA is managed by the Ohio EPA, which handles implementation, project coordination and reviews of the applicant projects, and the Ohio Water Development Authority, which handles the program’s finances. It is partly funded by federal grants and is designed to continue through loan repayment and investments.
