Missouri's conservation department now accepting applications for firefighting grants
"Due to some changes in how we process the applications, our deadline has been moved up to the end of October," MDC Forest Field Programs Supervisor Ben Webster said. "If you've applied in the past, keep this in mind and don't miss your opportunity."
The grant program is open to departments that serve 10,000 people or fewer. Grant winners can receive up to $3,000 and must be able to match the grant amount, though departments with an MDC-approved Community Wildfire Protection Plan are eligible for $1,000 more in matching funds. The money can go towards a variety of equipment, from communications tools to firefighting necessities, but those planning to use the funds on wildfire equipment will receive preferential status.
"This grant program is designed to help fire departments purchase wildfire suppression equipment that they would not otherwise be able to afford," Webster said. "It means increased safety for the firefighters and better protection in forested areas."
