The plant opened in 1983, and is in need of new equipment and repairs, though it is expected to meet capacity demands for the village through 2035. The improvements are expected to cost $3.25 million. They include replacements of mechanical fine screen and influent pumping and screen process equipment, as well as rehabilitation of the collection system and the final clarifier equipment and tank. The plan also calls for upgrading the aeration system and the three existing buildings, rehabilitating the final clarifier equipment and tank, and miscellaneous site work, amongst other measures.
The village is seeking a Clean Water Fund loan and Community Development Block Grant to cover the project’s cost, but it also anticipates an increase in the average residential customer’s bill from $21.55 per month to between $33 and $40.
The DNR does not expect significant environmental impacts from this project, but is welcoming public comments.
