DEQ seeks public comments on Idaho Falls starch facility

The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is accepting public comments on a proposed modification to Penford Products Company’s permit to construct (PTC) a starch manufacturing facility until Sept. 25.

The permit relates to a planned facility in Idaho Falls. The change proposed would let Penford increase process throughput, though emissions would still be required to stay within the legal limits.

The DEQ has made the permit application and proposed permit available on its website, and comments will be accepted via the website, email and mail.

After reviewing the permit application, the DEQ determined that the proposed modification, and the construction work and equipment operation it implies, would not create a violation of ambient air quality standards. The DEQ also determined that the modification will not unreasonable affect human and animal life, or vegetation.
