Alliant Energy’s Operation ReLeaf coming to eight Iowa locations in fall 2015
The events will be held throughout September and October in Cass, Cerro Gordo, Decatur, Hamilton, Johnson, Linn, Poweshiek and Winneshiek counties.
“Planting a diverse mix of trees on your property and in your neighborhood will reduce the likelihood of losing a large number of trees to forest health threats,” DNR Forestry Bureau Chief Paul Tauke said.
Trees that would retail for $65 to $125 will be sold for $25 on a first-come, first-served basis. Each event will feature eight to 12 varieties, chosen among the 30 in Operation ReLeaf’s inventory. Homeowners are able to order two trees in advance, which will provide benefits like increased property value and decreased storm water runoff, in addition to decreased energy consumption.
“All trees are purchased through a bidding process to promote local nurseries,” Tauke said. “This is a great way for homeowners to get a quality tree at an affordable price.”
