Assurant Rapid City building earns Energy Star certification

Assurant, Inc., earned an Energy Star certification for a building it operates in Rapid City, South Dakota, marking the company’s seventh consecutive year of winning the designation at one of its facilities.

“While this marks the first year Assurant earned Energy Star certification for Rapid City, the company is taking steps to improve our environmental performance across all of our facilities, with a goal of certifying all of our main office locations by the end of 2016,” Assurant President and CEO Alan B. Colberg said. “The Rapid City facility management team’s work combined with our employees’ efforts to reduce energy consumption, recycle and reduce waste, highlight the company’s commitment of improving the communities where we live and work.”

Assurant has been working since 2009 to conserve electrical energy usage. At the Rapid City facility, the company used methods such as consistent building temperatures, motion sensor-controlled lights and replacing standard light bulbs with energy efficient ones where possible. The Energy Star certification means that the building performed in the top 25 percent of similar facilities.
