Connecticut man is 1 of 12 Champions of Change

Patrick Carolan, of Stratford, Connecticut, was one of 12 Champions of Change honored during a White House Ceremony on Monday for their efforts to inspire environmental education and stewardship at the community level.

As executive director of the Franciscan Action Network (FAN) for the last five years, Carolan co-founded the Global Catholic Climate Movement, which brings Catholic leaders together to raise awareness of climate action in service of the church’s teachings on society and the environment.

“We are excited to recognize extraordinary people of faith, from across the country, who are acting on climate to protect our planet from harmful climate change impacts,” U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Gina McCarthy said. “Many of our faith leaders understand that it is our moral obligation to help preserve a healthy planet for generations to come, and are heeding President Obama’s call for community-led climate efforts.”

The White House Champions of Change program honors Americans who are empowering and inspiring their communities with a grassroots approach.

In addition to McCarthy, other dignitaries in attendance at Monday's ceremony included Brian Deese, senior advisor to the president.
