EPA recognizes five Chicago Safer Choice honorees

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 5 Administrator Susan Hedman honored five Safer Choice award-winners from the Chicago area and spoke about the new Safer Choice label at an event at the Loyola University Chicago Searle Biodiesel Lab today.

This year marked the first Safer Choice Partner of the Year awards, which recognized 21 companies and organizations from throughout the country who supported the program’s work to label products meeting strict health criteria.

Chicago boasted the highest number of winners, including AzkoNobel; ISSA, The Worldwide Cleaning Industry Association; Jelmar LLC; Loyola University of Chicago; the Institute of Environmental Sustainability and Sepan Company.

The event was also an opportunity for Hedman to highlight the new Safer Choice label, which was expanded to use on products like household soaps and cleaners.

“EPA’s new Safer Choice label helps people choose products that are safer for safer for families, pets, communities and the environment,” Hedman said. “Our Safer Choice Partners of the Year are demonstrating that safer chemicals are also good for business.”
