Pet care products firm settles with EPA over pesticide rule violations

Body
PetEdge Inc., a Beverly, MA, company dealing in pet care products, has reached a settlement with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) over violations of federal pesticide regulations, according to a Wednesday announcement from the EPA.

“Companies that sell or distribute pesticide products are required to carefully follow [Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rondenticide Act (FIFRA)] requirements that help ensure that people and the environment are not put at unreasonable risk,” said EPA New England Office Regional Administrator Curt Spalding.

According to the settlement, PetEdge does not admit culpability, but charges brought by the EPA include violations like distributing or selling seven pesticides not registered under FIFRA, distributing or selling three pesticides with inaccurate labels and importing insect products without reporting it to the EPA.

As per the settlement details, PetEdge is required to come into compliance within 30 days, as well as ensure that all of its products comply with federal standards. The company will also pay a civil penalty of $75,900.

FIFRA regulations were created to protect public health as well as that of pets and the environment.
