Honeywell supports EPA ban of HFCs
“Honeywell applauds the EPA on their landmark action to restrict the use of high-global-warming hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), which are among the most potent greenhouse gases in use today,” Honeywell Flourine Products Vice President and General Manager Ken Gayer said. “The EPA's action will accelerate the adoption of solutions with far less impact on the atmosphere while also spurring private sector innovation and creating jobs.”
Honeywell is heavily invested in finding those solutions, putting $900 million, along with its suppliers, towards research and development and new capacity for replacement refrigerants, insulators, aerosols and solvents. Honeywell’s new technology seeks to attain emissions no worse than carbon dioxide and better than 99 percent of the currently used technologies.
The HFCs rule came as a result of the Significant New Alternatives Policy (SNAP) program, which identifies substitutes for traditional but damaging substances. Honewell already has several products approved under SNAP, containing hydrofluoro-olefins (HFOs) technology that the company pioneered.
