Consumer Specialty Products Association announces 2015 Safer Choice Partner of the Year award winner

The Consumer Specialty Products Association (CSPA) announced on Wednesday that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has named it a winner of the 2015 Safer Choice Partner of the Year award.

The awards are designed to recognize leadership organizations like industry groups and regulatory bodies that support the Safer Choice program. Formerly called the Design for the Environment (DfE) Safer Product Labeling Program, Safer Choice gives companies the chance to submit their ingredient lists for various chemicals to earn, if approved by the EPA, the Safer Choice logo on their packaging.

“CSPA has made a concerted effort to work collaboratively with representatives of federal and state governments, NGOs and industry to advance communication about what is in consumer and Institutional products. We are honored to receive this award, which is a recognition of those efforts,” CSPA President and CEO Chris Cathcart said.

CSPA had previously developed a similar program for companies to provide more transparency to consumers buying their products. The association worked with the EPA throughout the development of the DfE program.

“This program helps increase ingredient communication transparency for users of consumer and institutional products, and it helps companies achieve increased sustainability,” Cathcart said. “A number of CSPA member companies have been incentivized to innovate to meet the criteria of the EPA Safer Choice program.”
