Nanosys first to achieve EPA approval for mass production of Quantum Dots
Nanosys is a major player in Quantum Dot technology, which is used to get the highest level of color and to vastly improve energy efficiency for displays and signage.
"After the conclusion of a comprehensive environmental risk analysis process, the EPA has given Nanosys the green light to continue ramping its manufacture of Quantum Dots on a full commercial scale," Nanosys CEO Jason Hartlove said. "This further establishes Nanosys' leadership position in the industry and is another significant milestone in strengthening the supply chain and facilitating further adoption of Quantum Dot technology for displays."
The approval means Nanosys can keep scaling up its production of Quantum Dots at its facility in Silicon Valley.
Previously, every Quantum Dot manufacturer in the county produced materials in compliance with the EPA's Low Volume Exemption rule, which was developed to make possible initial production of new materials under strict conditions and controls from the EPA. Now, Nanosys is the sole Quantum Dot manufacturer with EPA approval to manufacture or import more than 10,000 kilograms of Quantum Dots.
