Massachusetts Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Matthew Beaton announced May 20 that $800,000 has been made available to fund innovative water projects and the findings of the Massachusetts Water Technology Industry Roadmap.
“The announcement of grant funding for water improvement projects and the unveiling of the Water Technology Roadmap will reinforce the Baker-Polito Administration’s commitment to providing clean water to Massachusetts citizens while encouraging more efficient, cost-effective and eco-friendly technologies,” Beaton said at the annual Symposium on Water Innovation in Massachusetts, which is hosted by the New England Water Innovation Network.
The funding will help municipal governments adopt innovative, energy-efficient systems in their wastewater treatment plants and was authorized by 2014’s Water Infrastructure Bill. The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection and the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center will manage the fund.
Beaton’s other announcement was about the Massachusetts Water Technology Industry Roadmap, which determined that the state’s water technology sector is a $1.7 billion industry and that research activities and infrastructure within the state have positioned it to meet the world’s water challenges.
