Sherwin-Williams receives Ohio EPA award for environmental efforts

The Sherwin-Williams Co. received a gold level award in the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency's (OEPA) Encouraging Environmental Excellence (E3) program on Monday.

OEPA Director Craig Butler recognized the paint company for its environmental stewardship in a presentation at the Sherwin-Williams Breen Technology Center in Cleveland.

“Sherwin-Williams is honored to receive this recognition,” Sherwin-Williams Senior Vice President for Research and Development Diana Strongosky said. “Our associates have a strong commitment to creating innovative environmentally responsible coatings along with a major focus on reducing, reusing and recycling here at our facility. Continuous improvement is a part of our culture at S-W.”

Sherwin-Williams received a silver level award in 2014, but has since implemented energy-saving measures like replacing outdated features and updating to LED technology where applicable, as well as encouraging further recycling. These goals are in line with those of the E3 program, which seeks to recognize the companies that commit to environmental stewardship and encourage others to follow in their example.

“This company shows that being environmentally responsible is good for the economy and part of being a good corporate citizen,” Butler said. “We hope others will follow in their lead and go above and beyond the requirements of environmental regulations to make Ohio a better place to live and work.”
