Journal publishes Clean Power Plan remarks from EPA official

An article published today in the Energy Utility and Environment Conference (EUEC) Journal delineates Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) acting assistant administrator for the Office of Air and Radiation Janet McCabe’s remarks on the Clean Power Plan at this year’s conference.

Published by EUEC Chairman Prabhu Dayal, the article highlights points made during McCabe’s Feb. 16 address citing specific strategies of the plan and focus areas for its finalization.

“The article on EPA’s keynote presentation at EUEC will be the first part of a series of publications in the EUEC Journal,” Dayal said. “The second part of this series will address the keynote response from the utility industry to the Clean Power Plan.”

According to the article, McCabe said that the proposal will achieve its objectives by setting reasonable and enforceable state goals and allowing those states to create customized plans. She also identified four strategies for emissions reductions and the focus areas that need to be addressed for finalization, including state goal calculations, system reliability concerns, and the energy, legal and cost implications.

Overall, McCabe emphasized the need for partnerships between the federal and state governments and the importance of reliable, affordable energy.
