The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is expected to release an announcement on the Renewable Volume Obligations (RVO) by the time the Fuel Ethanol Workshop and Expo (FEW) begins in June, according to a report released on Wednesday.
The workshop is set to take place June 1 through 4 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. FEW brings ethanol producers and other professionals in the industry, including suppliers and researchers from around the globe, to discuss renewable energy.
"The EPA has heard the responses from farmers, clean air advocates and American drivers looking for choices at the pump, and there are indications that the agency will uphold the original intent of the RFS," Tom Bryan, editor-in-chief of Ethanol Producer Magazine, said. "We believe the EPA, in effect, is going to clear a path this spring for the ongoing implementation of the program."
The EPA website states that the proposed volume requirements will be released by the beginning of June. The RVO indicates how much renewable fuel is infused in gasoline in the U.S. and is determined with information and work from producers, refineries and other stakeholders.
The announcement from the EPA will inform new and experienced producers of renewable fuel on how the biofuel industry will act going forward; in this case, it is expected to grow.
