The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will join the U.S. Department of Justice and the state of California this week in announcing a Clean Water Act settlement that will protect Permanente Creek and San Francisco Bay.
The settlement with Lehigh Southwest Cement Co. and Hanson Permanente Cement, Inc.. is expected to protect water quality in the affected bodies of water.
Named after the Kaiser Permanente health care organization, the creek flows down Black Mountain in Santa Clara County through Los Altos and Mountain View, before emptying into the San Francisco Bay at the Mountain View Slough.
EPA Regional Administrator for Region 9 Jared Blumenfeld, Department of Justice Assistant Attorney General John Cruden, San Francisco Regional Water Quality Board Executive Officer Bruce Wolfe, California Attorney General Brian Nelson and General Counsel Kamala D. Harris are expected to speak at the announcement.
It will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve in Cupertino, California.
