New EPA website allows users to track public water system compliance

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has a new website that will allow users to access data on public water systems' compliance with the Safe Water Drinking Act (SWDA).

“It’s critical that the public knows whether public water systems are complying with laws that protect against harmful pollution in drinking water,” EPA Assistant Administrator for Enforcement and Compliance Assurance Cynthia Giles said. “This dashboard is a vital resource for Americans that want to play an active role to ensure clean drinking water in their communities. The dashboard supports EPA’s commitment to build transparency and engage the public in environmental protection.”

The SWDA dashboard is the latest of several being made available on the EPA’s Enforcement and Compliance History Online website, which also allows the public to access data related to regulations including the Clean Water Act’s National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System and the Clean Air Act.

On the new SWDA dashboard, users are able to track statistics and trends across the country and states, as well as Indian country and territories, via graphs and charts. Also, the public can click on those charts to view detailed information about specific facilities and access information regarding violations and enforcement actions on one screen.
