Ark. student wins EPA fellowship grant

Ryan DuChanois, a civil engineering student at the University of Arkansas, was one of 34 college undergraduates who received an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) research fellowship grant on Wednesday. 

The winners will receive financial support for their education in environmental science or similar fields through the EPA’s Greater Research Opportunities (GRO) Fellowship program.

“We are proud to support some of the most promising future contributors to the environmental field,”  EPA Regional Administrator Ron Curry said.

The fellows, who are all entering their junior year, are eligible to receive $20,700 of the total $1.7 million available from the grant throughout the academic year or $8,600 for use during a summer internship.

The GRO Fellowship has been helping environmental science students further their academic and career goals for more than 30 years, by providing its fellows with financial support and giving them tools for future success through internship opportunities at EPA facilities. Past fellows have gone on to careers as government researchers, engineers, university professors and high school science teachers.

“Supporting students in fields of environmental studies provides a continuous stream of specialists that will help us meet new environmental challenges,” Curry said..
