Two Florida manufacturers named EPA Safer Choice Partners of the Year

Florida’s Futurescape Inc. and Osprey Biotechnics Inc. are among the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Safer Choice Partner of the Year award winners this year due to their commitment to cleaning and household products registered in the Safer Choice program.

“Everyone wants products with ingredients that are safer for their kids, pets, communities and the environment,” EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy, who recently announced the winners at an event in San Francisco, said. “Using technology and innovation to turn challenges into profitable opportunities makes our businesses stronger and more competitive, our families and workers healthier, and our environment cleaner.”

Both companies won an honor in the Safer Formulator-Manufacturer category, meaning they create the chemicals bearing the Safer Choice label, while Ospre Biotechnics also won in the Safer Chemical Innovator category. To earn the label, products must contain ingredients that the EPA has approved through a full chemical identification, or, when necessary, subject their products to assessment by expert chemists and toxicologists.

The EPA selected 10 Safer Formulator-Manufacturer Partners of the Year out of more than 500 companies that make the approximately 2,000 Safer Choice products available in the country today. Other categories include Purchaser/Distributor, Retailer and Program Supporter. The EPA hosted the 2016 Safer Choice Partner of the Year Awards on May 9 in Washington, D.C., at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center.
