EPA opens nominations for Region 2 Environmental Champion Awards

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is now accepting Region 2 nominations for the Environmental Champion Awards, which recognize the efforts and achievements of people and organizations that have improved their local environment or public health.

"EPA’s prestigious Environmental Champion Award recognizes the hard work, vision and courage exhibited by local leaders who are committed to environmental protection,” EPA Regional Administrator Judith A. Enck said. “Everyone is encouraged to nominate people who are stellar leaders in this arena.”

Region 2 includes New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and eight Indian Nations in New York State. Individuals, businesses and organizations from those areas are eligible to win the region’s Environmental Champion Awards, which are given in the following categories: Business and Industry; Individual Citizen; Non-Profit Organization; Environmental or Community Group; Environmental Education; Federal, State, Local or Tribal Government or Agency; and Media.

Nominations are open until March 1.
