New England organizations win National Food Recovery Challenge honors
The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) won the National Food Recovery Challenge Endorser Award for its outreach and assistance efforts throughout the state, and for its Recyclingworks MA program.
“The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection is proud to receive U.S. EPA’s National Food Recovery Challenge Endorser Award for our program to reuse, recycle and compost food waste from commercial entities across the Commonwealth,” MassDEP Commissioner Martin Suuberg said. “We also are pleased to see so many Massachusetts institutions recognized as national leaders for their efforts to divert food waste from disposal.”
The EPA honored Massachusetts’ Salem State University for the largest percentage increase in food waste prevention and diversion by a college or university and Keene State College in New Hampshire for the best education and outreach campaign. Clark University received an honorable mention for source food waste reduction.
