Arizona DEQ proposes permit renewal for Globe wastewater treatment plant

The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is proposing a renewal of the City of Globe’s Arizona Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (AZPDES) Permit, which will allow the city’s wastewater treatment plant to discharge pollutants into Waters of the United States.

Globe Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) receives the city’s domestic wastewater, from both residential and commercial sources. The publicly owned facility also has a sludge disposal area on site. The city’s permit application requests permission for the plant to discharge treated domestic wastewater into Pinal Creek, in Gila County’s Salt River Basin, at a specified effluent limit of 1.2 million gallons per day.

Those interested in submitting public comments can do so by sending them to the DEQ Phoenix Water Quality Division office by December 11. Information on the permit is accessible online on the DEQ’s website and at the DEQ’s Records Center in Phoenix. Requests for a public hearing on the permit must be submitted in writing before December 11.
