Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Gina McCarthy is set to speak to high schools students participating in George Mason University’s Washington Youth Summit about the Clean Water Act today at the National Zoo.

The summit offers high-achieving students who have a passion for the environment and promoting sustainability and conservation a chance to explore potential careers in that field. Taking an interactive, hand-on approach, the students are able to experience the realities of working in environmental science, conservation, policy, law and engineering.

McCarthy’s talk will highlight the importance of the Clean Water Act and its recent update, which has made the regulations more precise in terms of waters covered and easier to understand, showing the participating students the measures in place to protect the nation’s ecosystems.

Other summit activities include behind-the-scenes tours of facilities like the National Zoo and the Smithsonian laboratories, field visits and other opportunities to interact with researchers and scientists.
